Your Baby’s Movements

Your baby’s movements are often first felt between 16 and 22 weeks of pregnancy, and get stronger as your baby grows. Every baby has their own pattern of movements, and will continue to move regularly throughout your pregnancy and during labour. These are a sign that your baby is healthy, and do not reduce in frequency. Baby’s don’t move all the time; they have periods when they are awake and active, and also sleep times. Spend time becoming familiar with your baby’s movement patterns.

Weaker, fewer, or no movements can be a sign that your baby is unwell. If you have concerns about the movements, sit quietly and focus on your baby as you might not notice movements as much when you are busy. If you still remain concerned, phone your LMC straight away.
